Chef who?
Preparing for Francis I decided to get a few days worth of supplies just in case we get creamed.
Well - this is the first time I can ever remember that I am getting really serious about a storm. There were some that frightened me and I hightailed it to a safer place. But as far as going and buying the whole canned goods thing....never did it.
Well - I live in a different place and I know I may have to leave my home so I am making sure that if I have to evacuate I will at least have something to eat for a few days.
They recommend canned goods. Well - I like canned veggies. I like green beans and spinach. There is something about the overcooked veggie in a can that makes me crazy. I grab 6 of them (the big economy size) - 3 each. I know it will get eaten if the hurricane passes me by. Then I move to the tuna. I like tuna. I prefer it with mayo - but I know that's not an option so I throw a 6 pack in the cart. Then I go over to the soups. I decide not to go with a soup because they all are gelatin glops when you open them and I really don't like cold soup in the form of jello - so I keep moving.
I come to Chef Boyardee. I remember him as a small child. Then somewhere in my teenage years I remember grabbing a can from the back cabinet to make myself a snack. (It was probably left over from the last hurricane preparation - I don't ever remember my parents serving it to us as a meal). I remember a horrible sauce and chewy meat. Ground Meat in a can. When eating it you get a strange film on the roof of your mouth - I don't know if that's from the sauce or the meat. Bleecch.
I know that a spaghetti and sauce dinner will cost you about $3 if you make it yourself. It will go up a couple of more bucks if you want meat in it. It's better than what you will get in a can and it feeds a family.
But I know that if we lose electric that type of meal is not an option. So - I stare at the cans. I buy beefaroni and ravioli. The cans are $2.99 each. I hope that HB and J wont be very hungry. I buy 6.
"Why didn't you buy more?" says HB. I think that that along with the gigantic jar of peanut butter and loaf of bread - we have enough to last a week.
Plus - what will I do with those huge cans of crap when November comes?
A lightbulb goes off - every year around November the schools ask for your canned goods.
Heeeeyyyy - its for a good cause!!!!!

The only time your Dad allowed Chef-Boy-R-Dee into the house was when you or JSC requested it. Yuck! Canned ravioli was a favorite as I recall.

It had to have been Jeff. He talks about Butterfingers like they are poison. So it must have been him!!!!
Told you he was odd.
