Mornings suck
I have never ben one for mornings. Ask my Mom - if you stood too close you might get a foot in the tummy. But - becoming a Mom many years ago has made me "tolerate" them.
J is usually a good morning person. She sets her alarm. She has a plan. Don't get in her way or try to deviate from it though. You will get a mouthful.
Well, these storms have really screwed with our schedules. We have finally taken down the plywood off the windows so that we can tell the difference between night and day. Schools are open for now. Traffic is a little worse. I don't know if its because of the weather or everyone is just running behind.
But - these are the days where I wish I owned my own business and didn't have to report in at a specific time.
I think Americans work too hard. I am one of them. We never take vacation. We are in early and we leave when we cannot take it (work) anymore.
I am in contact with Europeans. They get many, many days of vacation. They use them.
I am in contact with South Americans. Long lunches are the rule, not the exception.
Why are we so afraid to take time off? Are we concerned that the company will fall to the wayside without us? Are we scared that they will see that they don't really need us and we will be replaced?
I don't know the answer and I really wish I knew.

Go to your favorite search engine and type in the following exactly, including the quotes:
"why do americans work so hard"
Several articles explaining our work ethic, which we received from our Puritan forefathers/mothers, as well as today's business environment.
Very educational. Of course, having a job to go to and the money it gives you is a very good reason.
